The Wings Over Illawarra event has been delivered by Shellharbour City Council into the hands of private enterprise to allow the aviation event to soar to even greater heights.

The 8th annual aviation spectacle is expected to attract thousands of people to the airport in Albion Park Rail to see historic and military aircraft on the ground and in the air.

“Transferring the operation of this renowned aviation event to the private sector will provide more opportunity for it to grow into a nationally recognised occasion,” Mayor Marianne Saliba said.

Bright Events Pty Ltd will be hosting the event that will be held on Sunday 4 May.

“Council is confident that with the company’s experience in marketing and event management that this year’s event will be the biggest and best so far,” Cr Saliba said.

“The many ideas that Bright Events plan to implement should result in strong growth and bring even more benefits to the Shellharbour community,” she said.

The event will remain at the Illawarra airport and most of the previous organisational participants will be on hand to assist Bright Events and ensure a smooth handover.

“Council staff will continue to provide advice and support and we wish the company all the best and I am sure it will be a great day,” she said.
