Australia’s favourite air race pilot and former RAAF Fighter Combat instructor Matt Hall, will be one of the star attractions at this year’s Wings Over Illawarra Airshow at Illawarra Regional Airport on May 4-5

Matt is the only Australian ever to compete in the Red Bull Air Race and has been runner-up three times (2015,2016 and 2018) with the 2019 season marking his 8th season and offering another opportunity to taste the world championship glory that so narrowly evaded him last year.

His appearance at Wings Over Illawarra comes between races during the 2019 Red Bull Air Race World Championships season, with Hall sitting in fifth place after this month’s season opener in Abu Dhabi.

“My travel schedule around the world for the Red Bull Air Race doesn’t allow me to be part of many airshows in Australia but I always make sure that Wings Over Illawarra is in the diary as it’s such a great event and boasts such an incredible line-up of aircraft both in the sky and on the ground” Hall said.

Hall said he was excited to be part of this year’s Wings Over Illawarra and was looking forward to meeting as many Red Bull Air Race fans as possible.

Wings Over Illawarra organiser Kerry Bright said: “Matt’s thrilling aerobatics and his impressive flying skills continually enthralled audiences around the world and we are honoured to have him on board once again this year as he is such a great crowd pleaser.”

Destination NSW Chief Executive Officer Sandra Chipchase said Matt’s attendance at the event was just another fantastic highlight to the already impressive lineup.

“Spectators are always captivated by the electric atmosphere of the Wings Over Illawarra event and to have Matt along will only build further excitement! Beyond the show, the Illawarra Region offers visitors a wide range of adrenaline-pumping activities, so I encourage everyone to make the most of their time in town,” Ms Chipchase said.

Wings Over Illawarra is the major annual air show in NSW, as well as being the only air show experience within easy reach of Sydney and Canberra.  The event will take place on the 4-5 May at Illawarra Regional Airport and tickets are available from
