Thinking of flying in to Wings Over Illawarra?
There will be a large area available for visiting aircraft parking for pilots wishing to attend Aviatex and/or Wings Over Illawarra by flying in.
This will be a marked grass area South East of the runway intersection, unfortunately there will be no hardstand parking available as all hard stand areas allocated to the event will be required for display aircraft and event exhibits.
While the aircraft parking area is of considerable size, it may fill, so please be mindful of this when parking your aircraft and try not to leave large areas between aircraft. Event staff will be in attendance to assist pilots and direct aircraft in order to make the best use of the space available. Once you have shut down and exited the aircraft please make your way to the event entry gate at the most eastern point of the aircraft parking area.
Admission tickets for the trade days of Thursday and Friday can be pre-purchased through the Aviatex website or purchased on the day at the event.
Access to Aviatex Aviation Expo during the airshow days of Saturday and Sunday is included in the airshow entrance ticket. Tickets to the Wings Over Illawarra airshow are also available in advance from this website and will also be available at the gate on the day.
For those planning on flying in during the airshow days of Saturday and Sunday, plan to arrive before 10:30 on Saturday and 09:30 on Sunday as YWOL will be closed for the display at 11:00 Saturday and 10:00 Sunday. Any aircraft arriving after 10:45 Saturday and 09:45 Sunday may be turned away.
As the aircraft parking area will remain airside, access to this area will not be possible during the airshow display times. Please ensure that once parked you take all your belongings with you as you will not be able to access your aircraft until the display concludes.
Planned air display times are as follows
Saturday 1130 - 1630
Sunday 1030 - 1530
A point to note for pilots planning on flying in over the weekend is the Saturday display will be starting and finishing approximately 1 hour later than the Sunday display, this may cause some last light issues for those planning on departing following the display on Saturday. Please bear this in mind when planning your trip.
Pilots wishing to attend both days are welcome to fly in Saturday and fly out Sunday, and while there is overnight accommodation in the area, unfortunately there is no accommodation at the airport itself. Shellharbour City Council does not allow underwing camping at the Illawarra Regional Airport.
